No fewer than 15 unidentified corpses have been found floating on a river in southeast Anambra State but local media reports the number of the bodies could be much higher putting the figure between 30 and 40.
Television showed footage of what appeared to be male corpses in the Ezu river in Amansea, a border community between Anambra and neighbouring Enugu state.
It’s still unclear how the people had died or how their bodies ended in the river but Enugu police commissioner, Musa Daura said there had been no recent reports of communal clashes in the area.
The corpses were first discovered Saturday by fishermen and sand excavators, who alerted authorities. However, communities around the river have not reported anybody missing yet.
