Oba Akanni of Ado-Odo area in Ogun is in critical condition at a hopital in the state after he was beaten to a pulp by irate youths suspected to be loyalists of his rival, who allegedly did not want him despite a Supreme Court judgement validating his appointment three years ago. His palace was razed down and properties destroyed.
The Oba was in his SUV when it was flagged down by some unidentified youths. Immediately the monarch stepped out of the vehicle, the youths descended on him, stripped him to his boxer shorts and paraded him around the village..
A source, who preferred anonymity, said that the action of the angry mob could not be unconnected to an alleged nonchalant attitude of the traditional ruler towards an accident victim who was reported to have been hit by one of his vehicles.
